Picking for kitting

For some products, multiple items should be assembled into kits to be sold as one whole, e.g. gift boxes. Assembly of these products is simple enough to be done on the fly during a pick if no assembled items are available.

WMS users can pick components and then complete the assembly during the picking process. Assembly orders are created and authorized automatically by the system. Components, labor and overhead costs, and wastage quantities cannot be edited.

Prerequisites

  • Advanced WMS

  • Picking for kitting setting enabled in WMS Configuration screen, accessed via Cin7 Core web portal

  • Product for kitting must have an Assembly BOM without auto-assembly/disassembly enabled.

  • Enough components to assemble the entire order must be in stock for picking to start. Partial picking is not allowed.

  • Picking for kitting will only take place when no assembled products are available in stock.

Picking an assembled product

  1. A sales order is authorized for one or more products with an assembly BOM (auto-assembly is not enabled). E.g. ‘Tshirt bundle L basic’ with components ‘Tshirt White L’ and ‘Tshirt Black L’. Stock should not be allocated.

  2. Cin7 Core checks if ‘Tshirt bundle L basic’ is in stock.

  3. If the assembled item is in stock, WMS will direct picker to pick the assembled product.

  4. If there are not enough units of the assembled product in stock to fulfill the order, the system will split the remaining items into their components.

  5. Cin7 Core checks if there are enough components in stock to fulfill all remaining ordered units of 'Tshirt bundle L basic'.

  6. If yes, WMS will instruct picker to pick all components, then pack the assembled items. The system will create and authorize an assembly order automatically.

  7. If there are not enough components in stock to fulfill the entire order, the order will not be picked. Partial pick is not possible with this feature.

  8. If availability changes during picking and there are no longer enough components in stock to fulfill the order, the picker will be instructed to return the components to stock.
