Assign tax codes to products
Tax codes determine how much tax you should apply to your products and services. Once you have integrated Cin7 Core and Avalara, you can assign each product a tax code.
Before you start
You must be integrated with Avalara
You have added products to your inventory
Edit a product's tax code
All of the products in your inventory can be assigned a tax code from the Avalara integration. Avalara provides a Tax Code list for reference.
Go to Integrations → Avalara.
Open the Tax codes tab, where a list of your products with their Product SKU and Name from Cin7 Core are displayed.
Find your product. You can use the Search box to search by SKU or product name, or you can use the filters at the top to search for products, categories, brands, and product tags.
Once you find the product to be edited, click its tax code and select a tax code from the dropdown menu. You can type into the field to narrow down the dropdown menu options. By default, Avalara sets tax codes for all products as P0000000 (P followed by seven zeros).
Save your changes.
Tax codes on additional charges and services
Avalara tax codes apply to Additional charges and services lines only when the line matches a product by its exact name. If the line matches a product, Cin7 Core sends that product's SKU and tax code to Avalara.
Cin7 Core sends a free-text charge or service that doesn't match an existing product to Avalara without a tax code or SKU, so Avalara taxes it based on its own default rules, regardless of any mapping.
To apply a non-taxable (or any specific) tax code to an additional charge or service, create or map a product with that tax code and add that product to the additional-charge line, or add it directly in the Products grid. A free-text description alone won't inherit the mapped tax code.
