Bins
Bins are used to specify where the stock or production components are stored within a location. For some Cin7 Core functions, you will be shown a separate field for Bin as well as Location; in other functions, you can select the bin from the Location list in the format [Location Name]:[Bin Name].
Add bins to a location
Navigate to Settings → Reference Books → Stock → Locations and bins.
Select a Location from the list. Bins cannot be added to Fixed asset or Co-manufacturing locations.
Select the Bins tab.
Click the +button and add as many bins as required.
Save your changes to finish.
Define a staging bin
On the Bins tab, check the Staging box to mark a new or existing bin as a staging bin, a temporary location for the products being moved to permanent storage. This allows you to perform two-stage transfers, from From Location → Staging Bin → To Location.
Import/export a bin list
You can import bin lists in CSV format to save time and conveniently add large numbers of bins.
Navigate to Settings → Reference Books → Stock → Locations & Bins and select the Locations tab.
Select a Location to add the bin to from the list. Bins cannot be added to Fixed Asset or Co-manufacturing locations.
On the Bins tab, click Import.
Download the Bins Template CSV file and enter your data in plain text.
On the upload screen, select the updated Bins List CSV and click Upload.
Save your changes to finish.
You can also export an existing bin list in CSV format, make changes and re-import it. Click Export to export a list of bins in CSV format.
Remove a bin
Locations can be removed by either deprecation or deletion. If a location has been used in a Cin7 Core transaction, it can no longer be completely deleted. Deleting the transactions will allow the location to be deleted. The quantity of all items attached to the location (on hand, available, on order, in transit, allocated) must be 0.
Navigate to Settings → Reference Books → Stock → Locations & Bins and select the Locations tab.
Select a Location to add the bin to from the list.
-
Select the Bins tab.
If the bin has not yet been used in a transaction, you can delete it by clicking the Delete icon.
If the bin has been used in a Cin7 Core transaction, it can no longer be completely deleted. You can check the Deprecated box next to the bin to make it inactive and remove it as an option in WMS.
Save your changes to finish.
Define directed put away rules
This option will be visible on the Bins tab if you have enabled Directed put away for the location.
When receiving stock, many products must be put away to specific bins based on their dimensions or other factors, e.g. dairy products in a refrigerated bin. Some products should be kept in a single bin only, or can be stored in multiple bins. Your organisation may prefer to fill empty bins first, or fill each bin before moving on to the next. Directed put away allows you to configure put away rules for your locations and bins, then use these rules to suggest put away locations for received stock.
Directed put away rules can be applied when stock is received to this location. Each rule can have multiple parameters like total bin capacity, product dimensions, product weight, and more. Put away rules direct your users to put away products to specific bins based on their dimensions or other factors, e.g. dairy products in a refrigerated bin, when receiving stock.
See Directed put away for how to configure directed put away rules for how these rules are applied during a purchase.
Use bin groups for directed pick
Directed pick must be enabled for the location for this option to be visible. When directed is enabled, you can create bin groups for a location. Pick lists, stock availability checks, and some other features, in WMS can be restricted to one or more bin groups.
Please see WMS – Directed pick and bin groups for how to limit picking in a location to one or more bin groups.
