Customer hierarchies

Customer hierarchies

You can create a customer hierarchy by linking related customers in parent–child relationships. This is useful when a customer has subsidiaries or other associated companies. With a hierarchy, you can:

  • use the parent billing address for the child

  • view combined sales histories

  • access child customers from the parent

You cannot merge customers in hierarchies.

Choose a parent customer

You can create a hierarchy in your customer records by choosing a parent for each child customer.

  1. Go to Sales → Customers / Credits.

  2. Open the child customer.

  3. Open General.

  4. Select the customer’s Parent. The parent must:

    • Not be a child for another customer

    • Use the same currency as the child

    • Be an active customer

  5. Optionally, select Bill parent. This will:

    • Automatically show the parent's Billing address in the child's sales orders.

    • Include the child's sales in the parent’s combined sales history.

    • Show the parent's Billing address in the child customer's Addresses tab.

  6. Save.

Combined sales history

When you enable Bill parent for a child customer, their sales history is merged with the parent customer’s history. The parent’s sales appear in the child’s sales history, and the child’s sales appear in the parent’s. Child customers will also use the parent's Billing address in their sales orders.

You can view these combined histories on the Sales by product and Sales by document tabs of the customer records. Use the filter to Show all sales or Show only parent/child sales.
