Product Availability - Consolidate Batch / Serial Number dropdown
The issue
- When you scan a single SKU, with the same batch number, into multiple different ‘bin’ location, the dropdown filter in the Inventory > Availability > “consolidate batch/sn” will not “combine / consolidate" the stock into a single line. It has not been programmed correctly, to ignore ‘bin’ location, which means it does not function as intended - it is broken.
- If the ‘bin’ location is left blank, then the “consolidate batch/sn” drop down filter works correctly and we can easily know the total units in stock on a single line.
Example Data
Using the data below as an example of stock;
SKU001 - Batch A - Bin A12 - Qty 5
SKU001 - Batch A - Bin F44 - Qty 15
SKU001 - Batch B - Bin F34 - Qty 50
SKU001 - Batch B - Bin F85 - Qty 50
Suggested Fix
There should be three drop down filter options as follows;
"Show batch/serial number” (current - no change)
- This currently works fine without issues.It will show each line item individually, both the Batch and BIN locations like below
SKU001 - Batch A - Bin A12 - Qty 5
SKU001 - Batch A - Bin F44 - Qty 15
SKU001 - Batch B - Bin F34 - Qty 50
SKU001 - Batch B - Bin F85 - Qty 50
“Consolidate Batch" (new)
- This should really combine the SAME batches together and simply ignore the BIN locations, per below
SKU001 - Batch A - Qty 20
SKU001 - Batch B - Qty 100
“Consolidate Stock” (rename of the current “consolidate batch/sn”)
- This should join all the SKU stock together and ignore batch and bin locations
SKU001 - Qty 120
I think the above makes more logical sense than the current implementation.
Currently “consolidate batch/sn” simply does not work when you have programmed the same SKU into multiple different bin locations (ie some are in pick bins with the rest in storage bins), within the same/single main “Location”.
Also, “consolidate batch/sn” as a title does not make any sense, because you cannot consolidate serial numbers, which are unique/individual numbers. This is why I suggest to just rename it “Consolidate Stock”
Now you're probably wondering why we want to see “Consolidate Stock”… that is because it makes it far easier to check integration stock levels (to make sure Shopify and Cin7 are the same etc) and also helps with planning for Reordering.
A particular product might have 7 variants, and currently because the ‘consolidate batch/serial number’ does not function correctly (if each variant was put in 2 different bin locations), then on Cin7, I would have to manually add up 2 lines per variant, to know the stock quantity. If there is 3 bin locations, then 3 lines etc, multiple by 7 variants = a headache per product family.
