Option to sync product costs from Core into Shopify Answered

Thanweer Kamaldeen

We would like to request the ability to sync product cost prices (such as average cost or last cost)/ COGs from Core to Shopify, similar to the current inventory sync functionality. This integration would greatly benefit business operations by ensuring that cost data is accurately reflected across both platforms.

    Hi Thanweer,

thank you for your suggestion.  Cin7 Core is the master of inventory and therefore the master of the product costs of the inventory.

May I ask, why the product costs need to be synced to Shopify?  What is your use case in consuming the product costs from Shopify as opposed to the product costs in Core?

    1. A Shopify-Cin7 integration with a two-way sync, if implemented correctly, would provide multiple platforms access to inventory data while avoiding the unforeseen and questionable need to upgrade to a higher Cin7 license solely to obtain additional user licenses.
    2. Successful system integrations are designed for both systems to work seamlessly together, enabling the sharing of information and improving process efficiency.
    3. Operations require vital data for managerial reporting, particularly related to product pricing.

We second this request to sync the Average cost for a product in Cin7 to the Cost per item field in Shopify. This should be continuous and automatic like the inventory quantity.

The reason is that our sales team operates entirely out of Shopify B2B and it is helpful for them to be able to see margins so that they can quote effectively.

Please implement this feature. The integration already has a toggle for “Update stock levels in Shopify” and you just need one more for “Update cost prices in Shopify”.

Syncing average cost automatically on a variant level from Cin7 to Shopify would allow:

    1. More accurate margin reporting within Shopify, without the need to upload average cost daily or weekly.
    2. Ability to utilize 3rd party marketing tools like Profit Metrics which rely on accurate cost data.
    3. Cost + discounts in Shopify (via 3rd party apps), as opposed to % off Compare-at-price or Current Price.

we require the cost to be sent to Shopify also - we are using price scraping software and need the cost to do this - it is inaccurate to only to this on a periodic basis

This would be helpful to us as well.

    1) Costs in shopify allow us to view more impactful reports and make faster decisions regarding pricing (which we control via shopify)

    2) Costs in shopify would allow us to have more effective advertising campaigns as it would sync this data to google analytics/adwords.

    3) Third party app that we are using for pricing wholesale orders (which push back into Cin7 anyways) would allow us to make faster decisions when selling wholesale in the field.

This is needed for us as well.

The problem is Shopify inventory cogs is too basic - in that it only has 1 entry line for Cost Per Item and the quantities.

It doesn't have multiple lines based off batches or purchase orders - which is 100% required - because the COGs for the same unit will vary with each PO - due to things like freight, currency rates, inflation, order quantities from supplier/discounts etc

The only thing Cin7 could do is use their “current average cost". The COG sold report in Shopify would be different (average) to Cin7 (actual), but I think it would be better at least having the average in there and the inventory value should end up matching Cin7. This is better than ourselves trying to manually update the COGs which is pretty much impossible.

The issue continues further down the line as Google Merchant Centre is then using the COGs value from Shopify to run ads…

IMO, the issue squarely lies with Shopify. You simply cannot have a single line entry for quantity and cogs, it just does not make any logical sense at all. The only thing I could see Cin7 doing is using the average costs for the time being, until Shopify sort their nonsense out.
