Tracking Hardware/Firmware Revisions

We would like to be able to effectively track different hardware or firmware revisions / versions of a product in Cin7 Core. As of right now there is no intuitive way to do this in Cin7 and ultimately it requires us to create a new product or SKU which can be difficult to manage with our customers.
