Comments placed in "comment" field of sales orders not showing up in sales reports

Not all sale order line comments are appearing when running a sales report. Helpdesk said: "After investigating, we found that the "Sales Invoices & Credit Notes" report does offer the option to display line comments for product lines. However, the search function currently does not return results when searching by data fields like date or line comments." Would be helpful to be able to search by sale order line comments.
