Stop Product Family Overwriting Individual Products

We have a lot of Product Families that contain products with a mixture of VAT rates. Currently if you make any changes to a Product Family it resets the VAT rate of the individual product to the Family VAT rate. This is extremely frustrating when you need to make small changes (such as the description or adding a tag) to a Product Family.  This also affects Minimum Before Reorder and Reorder Quantity which will often be different for differing sizes.

Can these fields be set-up in a similar way to Product Family Prices. So that you can choose to use the Family Rate or set them individually.
