Enhance Reorder Functionality to Account for Available Stock with Units of Measure (UOM)

nader

The current reorder feature in Cin7 Core is designed to simplify restocking by automatically calculating reorder quantities based on Stock on Hand, Minimum Before Reorder, and Reorder Quantity metrics. While this feature works well for standard inventory, it does not account for Available Stock when items include a Unit of Measure (UOM), leading to overstocking issues.

Here’s an example of the problem:

  1. Scenario:
    • An item is sold in boxes of 12 (UOM: Box).
    • We have 36 pieces in inventory, which theoretically equals 3 boxes (available stock).
    • However, since the system does not auto-assemble the boxes unless there is a sales order, it shows 0 stock on hand for the box (UOM).
  2. Reorder Logic Issue:
    • If the Minimum Before Reorder for this item is set to 1 box and the Reorder Quantity is set to 3 boxes, the system uses the Stock on Hand metric to decide whether to reorder.
    • Since the system sees 0 stock on hand, it triggers a reorder for 3 boxes.
    • After reordering, we now have 6 boxes (72 pieces) in total, even though 3 boxes (36 pieces) were already available.
    • This process repeats, resulting in significant overstock and operational inefficiencies.
  3. Impact:
    • Overstocking ties up working capital unnecessarily.
    • It creates operational inefficiencies and storage challenges.
    • It disrupts proper inventory management, especially for businesses with UOM items.

Proposed Solution:

Update the reorder logic to account for Available Stock in addition to Stock on Hand for items with Units of Measure. Specifically:

  1. Adjust Reorder Calculation:
    • Include Available Stock (e.g., items that can theoretically be assembled into their UOM) in the reorder calculation.
    • Allow the system to differentiate between Available Stock and Stock on Hand, ensuring that it does not trigger reorders unnecessarily when there is sufficient inventory.
  2. Optional Feature Toggle:
    • Add a toggle or setting for users to choose whether reorder calculations should consider Available Stock for items with UOM.

Benefits of This Feature:

  • Reduces overstocking and optimizes inventory levels.
  • Improves accuracy in inventory management, especially for businesses that rely heavily on UOM-based products.
  • Enhances the usability and efficiency of the reorder feature, saving time and reducing manual intervention.
