Programming Issue - WMS Pick - Expand Button - BOM products not being sorted by Bin Location, across entire order of all individual products
A) When completing a PICK on the WMS
- The products, are sorted alpha-numerically by bin location - whilst following fifo rules, in the main / first view (Collapse View)
- No issues in this view at all
However…. if the Sale Order, contains a BOM product (which has auto-assembly on), then it means that BOM product is not physically made in advance (only electronically), and therefore does not have a bin location. That BOM product on the WMS will therefore show the bin location as the “main location”. All this is correct so far.
Now, because the BOM product is not physically made in advance, it means the WMS user in the Pick task, needs to click the “Expand” button, in order to collect the individual items from their bin locations, in order to make the BOM product.
And here is where the problem lies…
- When EXPAND is pressed, IT IS NOT, sorting all the individual items by bin location alpha-numerically.
- When EXPAND is pressed, IT IS currently “grouping” the individual products that make up the BOM, within a container, and sorting that container alpha-numerically, separetely to the other individual products on the Sale Order. This is illogical.
Explaination below
Sale Order SO-0001 has an order for three products below;
- SKU001 - Standalone product - Bin Location is A05.25.01 - Qty 1
- SKU015 - Standalone product - Bin Location is A03.40.02 - Qty 1
- SKU020 - BOM product - Location “Main Warehouse” (as its an auto-assembly bom / not physically made in advance) - Qty 1
The individual product that make up BOM for SKU020 is as follows;
- SKU100 - Standalone product - Bin Location is A05.01.01 - Qty 1
- SKU200 - Standalone product - Bin Location is A02.32.04 - Qty 1
- SKU300 - Standalone product - Bin Location is A01.01.01 - Qty 1
In the first view (Collapse View) of the Pick, on the WMS, it will show as
- SKU015 - Bin Location is A03.40.02 - Qty 1
- SKU001 - Bin Location is A05.25.01 - Qty 1
- SKU020 - Bin Location is Main Warehouse - Qty 1
- Everything is correct, sorted Alpha-Numerically by Location
In the second view (Expand View) of the Pick Task it is currently doing the following;
- SKU015 - Bin Location is A03.40.02 - Qty 1
- SKU001 - Bin Location is A05.25.01 - Qty 1
- SKU300 - Bin Location is A01.01.01 - Qty 1 - (makes up the BOM product)
- SKU200 - Bin Location is A02.32.04 - Qty 1 - (makes up the BOM product)
- SKU100 - Bin Location is A05.01.01 - Qty 1 - (makes up the BOM product)
- The above is what is currently happening and is WRONG!
- It did not sort Alpha-Numerically by Location, across, ALL of the individual items.
- It is currently grouping the BOM seperately and sorting those products alpha-numerically, within its own cotainer, rather than simply sorting all the individually items on the order.
Below is what should happen
- SKU300 - Bin Location is A01.01.01 - Qty 1 - (makes up the BOM product)
- SKU200 - Bin Location is A02.32.04 - Qty 1 - (makes up the BOM product)
- SKU015 - Bin Location is A03.40.02 - Qty 1
- SKU100 - Bin Location is A05.01.01 - Qty 1 - (makes up the BOM product)
- SKU001 - Bin Location is A05.25.01 - Qty 1
- This above is what SHOULD AND NEEDS to happen
- This ensures the products are sorted Alpha-Numerically by Bin Location
In the above example, this is just for a SINGLE sale order. The problem is multipled far worse, when picking more than a Single Order at a time. Good luck trying to pick 10 orders in a single go in the current implementation, give it a try for yourself.
In the current implementation of the WMS Pick (when Expand is pressed), it is literally NOT POSSIBLE to pick efficiently in an single one time pass through the isles. What is currently happening, is we are walking down each isles, collecting all the individual items along the way shown on the WMS Pick Expand view. At the end of collecting the individual products, now we are left with the BOM individual products, and are having to re-walk through each isle, to collect those individual items, because the expand list is not being sorted Alpha-Numerically across the ENTIRE individual products
This issue needs to be addressed immediately as it is effecting us daily, as picking orders is a CORE task that needs to be completed in a logical and effective manner.
