Enable Auto-Assembly Support for "FEFO - Batch" Costing Method

nader

We’d like to request an enhancement to your inventory system regarding costing methods and auto-assembly functionality.

Current Limitation

At the moment, only the following costing methods support auto-assembly:

  • FIFO
  • FIFO - Batch
  • Special - Batch

However, FEFO - Batch does not support auto-assembly, which is creating operational inefficiencies in our workflow.

Use Case

In our retail setup, we sell certain products both as:

  • Boxes (e.g., 1 box = 10 units)
  • Individual units

These products are batch-tracked with expiry dates, and we use FEFO - Batch to ensure the system always suggests the product with the earliest expiry during picking and packing.

When packing via the web interface, if a product has multiple expiry dates, the system prompts the packer to choose the correct batch. This works well and ensures proper stock rotation.

The issue arises when a box is sold. Because auto-assembly isn’t supported under FEFO - Batch, the dispatcher must manually create an assembly every time — converting units into a box — which is time-consuming and adds friction.

Requested Enhancement

Please enable auto-assembly support for the "FEFO - Batch" costing method, so that:

  • Assemblies from units to boxes happen automatically when a box is sold.
  • Expiry date logic continues to be enforced.
  • Manual steps for dispatch are minimized.

Business Impact

  • Speeds up dispatch and packing processes
  • Reduces manual intervention and errors
  • Maintains batch traceability and expiry compliance

Thanks for your support!

Definitely need this for another client that we have just brought onto Core.

  • I have a CPG food business client who has requested this today. Currently, they need to perform monthly variance corrections for their food product items by lot (batch) number for DTC packaged items that use auto-assemblies of Special-Batch (costing method) items.

They would prefer to transition to their products to FEFO-Batch, which is a logical choice for food businesses. However, due to the inability to use FEFO-Batch in auto-assemblies in Cin7 Core, they are forced to continue using Special-Batch and must correct their batch (lot) level stock count variances each month.

Considering the significant role of CPG food businesses for Cin7 Core, I believe this should be a priority for implementation.

Thank you for considering this request.
