Ability to Add Shipping Packaging to Packing in Sales Order Workflow
I would like to request an enhancement to the sales order workflow in Cin7 Core.
Currently, our company treats shipping packaging (e.g., shipper cartons, pallets) as inventory items. During our fulfilment process, sales orders are created and authorised, then move to the picking and packing stages. However, at the packing stage, we are unable to add any additional items—such as shipping packaging—unless they were originally included on the sales order.
We intentionally exclude packaging from the sales order to keep customer invoices clean and free of non-sale items. Unfortunately, this limitation creates operational inefficiencies:
- We cannot include the actual shipping packaging used (e.g., cartons or pallets) in the packing list.
- This prevents accurate weight calculations on packing slips unless the sales order is undone, amended, and reprocessed—a time-consuming and error-prone workaround.
- We must manually adjust stock levels to account for consumed packaging materials.
Feature Request:
Could Cin7 Core introduce functionality to allow certain product categories (e.g., shipping packaging with zero retail value) to be added during the packing stage, without being tied to the original sales order or appearing on the invoice?
This would:
- Improve packing slip accuracy by including the weight of shipping materials.
- Streamline operations by reducing the need to reverse and re-authorise sales orders.
- Ensure inventory for shipping packaging is updated correctly and automatically.
