Stocktake only by location PI counts no pratical

dawn

You can current only stock take by location. We want to start doing PI counts throughout the year but when you can only stock take by location its not possible. You can filter by bin however say we want to stock take 20 bins, and this is 20 different SKU's, but these SKU's have back up stock in other bins, because on the current set up you have to stock take the whole SKU quantity event if spread over different bin locations, my initial 20 bins could then be 200 bins if each SKU has reserve stock in 10 more locations. Also in our warehouse we rack by racking availability so these bins could be spread all over the warehouse, there is an increased chance locations could be missed and its time-consuming finding each location, which means you already have to pull the locations.

Ideally you could stock take per bin, each bin is its own stock take and you enter the stock against the bin only. this way you could systematically stock take the warehouse with a set number of bins stock taken per week.

    Hi Dawn,

    We seem to use bin locations in the same way as I've read your previous comments in other f'requests.

    1. I haven't used the stocktake function before, however from memory, you could not process orders etc when I read the FAQ ~1 years ago.
    2. Judging by your comments, we would have the same issue, as we have a small amout of picking stock in our pick bins locations, with the excess stock (bulk stock) in other bin locations which are more for storage/pallet racking/long span shelving etc.
    3. I agree, that I'd just want to stocktake per bin location, not the entire SKU due to the stock being split into various bin locations.
    4. Currently, we just walk around and randomly use the WMS Stock Lookup, scan the item/bin location, and count the units inside to see if it matches electronically.
    5. The thing is it can be tricky if we are short on units. We don't just update the stock quantity there and then, because usually we may find someone has put/returned the item into a wrong bin location, usually not too far away, though I guess we could always re-add it in (if we had adjusted the stock instantly there and then) and later happened to find it in a wrong bin location.
    6. The other problem by using the Stock Lookup is there's no real ‘record’ of you doing it. May end up doing it all the time without noticing.

    What would probably help both of us, is called a “Cycle Count” which another competitor implemented recently, where;

    • It creates a job/task, to stocktake the bin location based on a set period - “IE every 3 months”
    • There might be additional options to create a job/task → Such as “if the SKU unit quantities is less than ”5", create a cycle count task"
    • Then the WMS user would just follow the task etc, which would then be recorded etc.
    • The less than 5 etc helps, to ensure you don't oversell etc or undesell
    • The every 3 month helps, just in case a box goes missing etc
    • And you should be able to do it at your own pace per say, not like a stocktake where you cannot process orders etc

    Anyway, my 2c, I think that might be something you and I are after.
