Provide option to show potential stock for Assembly BOM products that are not set to auto-assemble
Hi,
We use products to manufacture other products. For example, we can make a decking board with a grooved surface from a smooth stock decking board. In order to track production simply, we can use the Assemblies UI. However, this only works if the auto-assembly BOM option is set to FALSE. If this is the case, the potential ‘stock’ of grooved decking boards is displayed as zero rather than the stock level of the smooth board.
Can you provide an option to show the potential stock for Assembly BOM products that are not set to auto-assemble?

This exact issue affects us too. We have a large number of assembled products with their BOMs set to auto-assembly solely so that Shopify will show the logical stock availability.
You can set Shopify to not track stock at all for a product, but then that product is always in stock even when you don't have all the necessary components on hand. So that is not a solution.
The side effect of auto-assembly is that Inventory Planner treats auto-assembly products as a “bundle” (i.e. kitting logic) and there does not allow you to forecast that product, request assembly jobs for it, or print labels for it. I expect other 3rd party platform would do the same.
The way a BOM with auto-assembly enabled transfers stock availability is realistic, logical and effective.
Our proposed solution is a third checkbox at the BOM level for “Inherit availability”, so that the logic for auto-assemble and for availability are disconnected from each other.
