Expanded pick list and original BOM
We purchase various products in a bulk pack size, e.g. 1000 items. Then we sell as single units, which have a BOM of 0.001 x the full pack.
The problem is that also see the single units as part of a “kit” with and auto-assembly BOM. When fulfilment prints an Expanded Pick List for the kit, it doesn't print 5 x single unit like the BOM shows. Instead it prints 0.005 x 1000-pack.
This is logical from a system point of view, but it is not at all intuitive for the picking team to read 0.005 x pack as “We need five of those”.
What is the correct solution? If we stock the product under the single unit SKU and build up the pack with a BOM then the expanded pick list will work as intended. But then purchasing needs to buy the bulk pack against the single SKU (what p/n and cost price do you enter?) and the stock needs to be booked in under the single SKU which is illogical.
Any tips and advice appreciated. Thank you
