Pennies From Heaven

There was a day when collecting pennies was a necessity for anyone that operated a retail store front and was required to make change for cash sales.  The US government has decided that there will be no more Pennies from Heaven, no more minting of those shiny copper coins that we have all been accustomed to over the decades.  Can't blame them since it now costs $.03 to make a single shiny Abe Lincoln!  Humor (or irony aside), it has certainly had an effect on every business in the retail brick and mortar space, and our business is no exception.

We implemented the Cin7 rounding feature in our POS integration setup in order to round all cash sales to the nearest $0.05.  Here's our request for this feature:

Once the cashier selects the CASH option for payment and Cin7 returns the suggested tender amounts, calculate the rounding and show the cashier this amount BEFORE having to hit the Tender button.  Also, update the sample receipt on the left side of the screen to reflect the rounding as well.  

Currently, for example, if a POS transaction results in a $9.67 sale and the cashier is presented with the option to take a $10.00 bill (and the cashier selects the $10), nothing on the screen changes to indicate that the sale will be rounded to $9.65 (per the set up rule in the integration). The receipt on the left side of the screen does not change, and in fact the suggested change back to the customer shows $0.33 to be returned…WITH NO ROUNDING!  Leading the cashier to think they will have to have some pennies to make change (…and they won't be coming from Heaven!).  Only after the Tender button is pressed does the cashier see any rounding calculation made.  In fact at the point, the screen blanks and goes to a completion screen that gives the cashier the rounded amount of change to be given back to the customer.  Only then can an updated receipt showing the rounding be printed.
