Feature Request: Add Native Shipping Charges to Cin7 POS Orders

Luke Vaillancourt

We would like to request the ability to add shipping charges directly within Cin7 POS as a dedicated shipping field or service, rather than requiring shipping to be entered as a product line item.

Currently, when we process a sale in Cin7 POS that requires shipping—such as a phone order, special order, or in-store order that will later be shipped—we have to add shipping as a standard line item. This creates several issues:

  1. Incorrect accounting treatment
Shipping entered as a line item does not map to the correct shipping income or shipping charge account. This creates inconsistency in our accounting and requires manual cleanup.
  2. Inconsistency with Cin7 Core
In Cin7 Core, shipping can be handled as an additional charge or service, which allows it to be treated separately from product revenue. POS orders should follow the same structure so that sales data, reporting, and accounting remain consistent across Cin7.
  3. Reporting distortion
Treating shipping as an item can inflate product sales, distort margin reporting, and make it more difficult to separate merchandise revenue from fulfillment-related charges.
  4. Operational inefficiency
Staff need a simple way to add shipping at checkout without choosing a workaround product item, remembering the correct SKU, or creating accounting cleanup downstream.

Ideally, Cin7 POS should include a native option to add shipping to a sale, similar to how shipping is handled in Cin7 Core. This could appear as a dedicated “Shipping” field or “Additional Charge” section within the POS checkout flow.

The feature should allow shipping charges to:

  • Map to the correct accounting bucket or chart of accounts.
  • Sync to Cin7 Core as an additional service or shipping charge, not as a product line.
  • Be reported separately from product revenue.
  • Support predefined shipping options or rates.
  • Potentially pull from existing Cin7 Core shipping services, Cin7 POS shipping settings, or integrated shipping providers.
  • Allow manual entry when needed for phone orders, special orders, or custom shipping quotes.

This would make POS orders much more consistent with Cin7 Core orders and would improve accounting accuracy, reporting clarity, and staff workflow.
