Stock levels in Shopify

Stock levels in Shopify

Keeping your stock levels in sync between Shopify and Cin7 Core makes sure your inventory quantities are always accurate and reduces the likelihood of overselling. You can choose to update stock levels automatically whenever there is a sale, or wait to update stock levels manually.

Update stock levels

Stock levels are always pushed from Cin7 Core to Shopify, never from Shopify to Cin7 Core. You can optionally disable automatic stock updates, but manual stock updates cannot be disabled.

Automatic stock updates

Stock sync is pushed to Shopify automatically every time there is a change in the product stock level in Cin7 Core, such as a sale fulfillment, purchase order receipt, transfer, write-off, stock adjustment, or return. These updates can be disabled.

Listing or updating a product in Shopify always updates the stock quantity for that product. This cannot be disabled.

Manual stock updates

Manual stock updates can be triggered at any time, even if automatic stock updates are disabled.

  1. In your Shopify integration, go to the Catalog section.

  2. Click Update stock quantities in Shopify to update quantities for all listed items.

Enable or disable automatic stock updates

Automatic stock updates are enabled or disabled from your Shopify settings with Update stock levels in Shopify.

You may want to turn stock updates off if you are not sure you have the correct quantities in Cin7 Core, if you are testing some promotional inventory in Shopify that does not reflect real stock levels, or if you are first setting up your store. Turning this setting on will overwrite stock quantities in Shopify with stock quantities from Cin7 Core.

Update stock levels for different locations

You may store and sell stock at multiple locations or branches. If you have correctly connected your Shopify and Cin7 Core locations and listed products to their sale locations, Cin7 Core will automatically calculate and update stock levels for the correct locations.

You will need to map Shopify locations to Cin7 Core locations and map products to one or more locations to update stock levels for different locations.

View stock levels

Sale location stock is displayed on the Catalog and Bulk listing sections of your Shopify integration. This is the quantity available for your customers to buy in your Shopify store. The sale location sale quantity is calculated in this order of priority:

  • If you have mapped products to locations and mapped locations, the sale location stock for a product will be the available stock in its mapped location (or sum of available stock if the product is mapped to more than one location).

  • If products are not mapped to a location, sale location stock quantity is taken from the location for online sales in your Shopify settings.

When buffer inventory is enabled, you can also view the Sync quantity and Buffer inventory quantity alongside Sale location stock.

Stock level update for products with additional units of measure

You may have products in Shopify that have multiple units of measure. For example, a canned drink could be sold as a single unit, a case of 6, and a case of 12, all sold under different SKUs.

If these SKUs are linked in Cin7 Core with Additional units of measure, Cin7 Core will update stock levels taking into account the different units of measure. For example, if you had on hand 180 single units of canned drink, your stock availability would show:

  • 180 single units available

  • 30 cases of 6 available

  • 15 cases of 12 available

If these SKUs are not linked with additional units of measure, Cin7 Core will update stock levels only with the quantity currently available of each SKU.

Buffer inventory

Instead of showing actual inventory values in online storefronts, you may prefer to display an estimated quantity where this is a safe buffer inventory to avoid overselling quantities. Cin7 Core lets you set an inventory buffer for individual product quantities, as well as all products for a sales channel. See Buffer inventory for more information.
