Refine ForesightAI forecasts

ForesightAI generates forecasts and reorder suggestions from your sales data, but you know your business in ways the algorithm can't — upcoming promotions, supplier relationships, seasonal quirks, and more.

Refining your ForesightAI product, location, and supplier settings, choosing the right strategy, and using rules and adjustments lets you factor in that knowledge and produce more accurate forecasts. Settings configured in one area are automatically reflected wherever they apply, keeping your ForesightAI setup consistent.

It can take up to 24 hours for changes to the ForesightAI settings to impact your forecasts, reports, and smart reorder suggestions.

Before you start

  • Cin7 ForesightAI included in your subscription.

  • ForesightAI requires at least 6 months of sales history in Cin7 Core.

Open the ForesightAI settings

  1. Go to Settings > ForesightAI settings.

  2. Open the tab for the settings to refine.

Product strategy

Your strategy defines what matters most to your business, like profit or revenue. It guides how ForesightAI segments your products and makes reorder suggestions:

  1. Open Product strategy.

  2. Choose your strategy: Gross margin, Revenue, Sales frequency, or Sales quantity.

If you’re new to ForesightAI, we recommend sales frequency. This sorts your products by popularity, helping keep your customers happy with their favorite products.

Suppliers

Suppliers are more than just sources of goods — they are essential partners that affect your business operations, profitability, and customer satisfaction.

ForesightAI reviews your supplier information to help optimize purchasing suggestions. You can manage the following settings per supplier on the Suppliers tab.

  • Minimum order amount — the minimum spend required per order. Smart reorder will suggest additional products from the supplier to meet this threshold.

  • Purchase order period — how often you want to order from the supplier. Longer periods require more stock per order. Shorter periods mean smaller, more frequent orders.

  • Lead time — how long it typically takes for an order to arrive. Smart reorder uses this to plan replenishment and avoid stockouts.

  • Set period and lead time — by default, ForesightAI calculates purchase order periods and lead times from your historical data automatically. Change this to set period and lead times manually.

You can also:

  • Export supplier settings to CSV

  • Bulk update (Import) supplier settings

  • Use the filter to view suppliers with or without refinements (Default / Modified)

Changes save automatically.

Locations

Locations are the backbone of your inventory. Each one affects how stock is held, moved, and replenished across your business.

ForesightAI reviews your location information to help smart reorder plan transfers and replenishment. You can manage the following settings per location on the Locations tab.

  • ForesightAI — include (Active) or exclude (Inactive) a location from ForesightAI calculations, including reports, forecasts, and reorder suggestions. Exclude locations that are outdated, used for dropshipping, or not relevant to replenishment. Inactive locations drop to the bottom of the list.

  • Assembly — mark a location as a manufacturing facility. ForesightAI will suggest production jobs, raw materials, and finished goods transfers for assembly locations.

  • Transfer lead time — how long it typically takes to transfer products from a location. Smart Reorder uses this to plan transfers and avoid stockouts.

  • Transfer period — how often stock is transferred from a location. Longer periods consolidate shipments. Shorter periods mean smaller, more frequent transfers.

  • Assembly lead time — how long it takes to assemble the BOM. ForesightAI uses this to schedule production jobs and plan raw material availability.

  • Assembly period — how often assembly jobs run for the BOM. Longer periods consolidate production runs. Shorter periods mean smaller, more frequent jobs.

  • Co-manufacturing — marks a location as a co-manufacturing warehouse. Activating this setting removes the location from the location hierarchy — it has no parent location and moves to the bottom of the active list, above inactive locations. To complete setup, configure two options:

    • Replenished by — does the location receive raw materials from a supplier, or via transfer from another location?

    • Parent / Supplied locations — once raw material becomes finished product, which warehouse or warehouses receive it?

If a co-manufacturing location is replenished by both sources, do not use the co-manufacturing setting. Instead, remove the location from the hierarchy manually and configure affected products individually in product settings.

Changes save automatically.

Products

Every insight, forecast, and suggestion ForesightAI makes is driven by product data. Getting that data right is the most powerful way to improve your results.

The Products tab gives you granular control over individual product SKUs at every location — lead times, order periods, expiry dates, and more.

Product rules

Product rules let you automate settings across groups of products using if/then logic. Instead of updating product settings one by one, a single rule can apply a setting to every product that matches your criteria.

To create a product rule:

  1. Open Product rules.

  2. Click Create rule.

  3. Give the rule a name.

  4. Set the default IF condition — choose a parameter and a value.

    • Optionally, click + Add parameter to add another IF condition, then select an and/or operator.

  5. Set the THEN condition — choose the setting to apply and the value to set.

    • Optionally, click + Add rule to add another THEN condition, then select an and/or operator.

  6. Save rule.

You can also:

  • View your current rules’ configuration (Criteria summary) and what products are affected (Matching products count)

  • Edit and delete rules

Forecast adjustments

Historical data can't account for everything — a planned promotion, a seasonal spike you know is coming, or a period you want to exclude from forecasting. Manual forecast adjustments let you override ForesightAI's forecasts with your own knowledge.
