Managing stock transfers
Stock transfers let you move stock between two of your locations. You can transfer stock that is allocated to sales or other processes but hasn't been picked yet. Stock can be moved instantly between locations, or you can mark stock as in transit if it will take longer to get to its destination location.
Prerequisites
Create a stock transfer order
Transfer stock between your organization locations. You can also use our Warehouse Management Solution application to pick and pack stock transfers directly from your warehouse.
Select Inventory from the main menu, then Transfers.
Click + Add to add a new stock transfer
Choose the From and Tolocation.
Optionally add a Reference, Comment, and Shipment required by date.
Optionally Skip order. This skips creating the transfer order and takes you directly to the next section, picking stocks.
Optionally enable Put away to put away transferred stocks to multiple bins of the destination location.
-
Add products to the transfer order on the Order tab.
+ Add products to the transfer order manually
Add multiple product Family variants

- Enter a Stock sent date, then select Send stock if the stock will send some time to reach its destination. This moves the stock value to your stock in transit account.
- By default Cin7 Core will use your account mapping for Stock in transit but you can select an alternative asset account if required.
- You can skip this step to instantly transfer stock from one location to another if you do not have Put away enabled.
- Enter a Stock received date, then select Complete. This completes the stock transfer. If you have put away enabled, you need to put away received stock first.
Receive transferred stock with put away
Sending stock changes the transfer order status from Ordered to In transit. You need to receive the stock when it arrives at its destination location to put it away to the correct bins.
Enter a Stock received date once the goods reach the destination warehouse.
Go to the Put away tab.
+ Add or Scan products to put away.
Select the put away Location for each product.
Enter the Received quantity to put away.
Click Complete to finish the transfer.
Allocate costs to stock transfers
Once the stock transfer is completed, you can allocate transfer-related costs to transferred stock or as a business expense using the Manual Journals tab. You can distribute costs to stock transfer items by cost, quantity, volume, weight, or manually.
To capitalize a manual journal expense, the debit account should be set to the inventory account. This will increase the stock on hand value of your inventory. Set the debit account to an expense account to class transfer costs as expenses. This will not increase the stock on hand value of your inventory.

Stock in transit
Stock transfer supports an intermediate state of stock departed from the origin warehouse but not yet received in the destination warehouse. This status is In transit. This is a useful option for scenarios where goods will take some time to reach their destination warehouse, the stock value will be stored in the in-transit account for the duration of the transfer.
Transactions generated for the process are as follows:
Action |
Debit |
Credit |
Effective date |
Stock departs origin warehouse |
In transit account |
Inventory (account associated with stock being transferred) |
Stock sent date |
In the case of the cost of goods being transferred changing after the Stock sent date, the date of cost change will be used instead for every cost change grouped by date.

Stock transfers and FIFO
When transferring stock, you can either maintain the same Stock received date, or replace this date with the date you complete a transfer. This can be used in multiple ways to move around stock and your picking preferences to bring up stock that you want to release ahead of the natural FIFO order.
Choose your stock transfer date configuration from your products and measurement settings.
