Packing with WMS

Packing with WMS

Packing is the process of packing the picked products for each customer order and preparing them for shipping. Products from the same order can be packed in separate boxes and delivered using multiple carriers. This article also covers printing package details and printing shipping labels for integrated shipping services.

Prerequisites

  • Configure WMS settings

    • Sale order packing must be Manual

  • Connect a barcode scanner or enable camera scanning (recommended)

  • Sale pick must be picked and authorized through the WMS app. Sale picks authorized through Cin7 Core will not be available to pick in WMS.

Pack an order

  1. Select Pack from the Main menu.

  2. Enter the Order # and tap Start or select the order. If tote numbers are enabled in your WMS settings, you can also search for an order with its tote number.  Alternatively, leave the field blank and tap the search icon to view all orders available to pack.

  3. Next, you will see the items to pack with the sale order number. Select the product by entering the item number, scanning the barcode, or tapping the product on the screen.

  4. Clicking a product allows you to change which package you are adding products to, packing multiple packages at once. Enter a package number manually or scan package number to change the package. Entering a new number and pressing Save will add a new package, or existing package numbers can be selected from the dropdown menu to change the quantities.

  5. Continue scanning/entering items or manually adjust the item quantity if this is permitted by your WMS settings.

  6. Once all products have been packed, click click Save to complete the pack and return to the pack screen.  If Print package details is enabled in WMS settings, this will trigger printing of a package details document. If you have a shipping service enabled, you will be given the option to enter package dimensions, and print a shipping label. You can now pack another order.

Print package details

Print a package detail document for each package, showing sale order details, customer details and package contents. Print package details must be enabled in the WMS settings. This can be printed if a printer is connected to your device, or saved as a PDF to print later or send to the customer.

This is not a shipping label and merely an informational document.

Print label for shipping service

If you have a shipping service integrated with Cin7 Core, you can print a shipping label directly from Cin7 Core WMS. Your device must be connected to a printer or have the ability to save documents as PDF.

If Sale order shipping is set to Automatic in WMS settings, Cin7 Core automatically authorizes the ship and this step will be skipped.

Once all products have been packed, clicking Process shipment will display the package box parameters. This is dynamically generated depending on the shipping service provider, the fields may not look exactly like the image. Enter the details for each package and Save package details.

When all items within the sale order are packed into boxes, you will be able to select Print label. This will send the package information to the shipping service provider.

Consolidated shipments

StarShipIT and Shippit support consolidating multiple packages into one shipment, and will return a single consolidated shipping label. Shiptheory and ShipStation do not currently support consolidated shipments and will return individual labels for each package.

When package details are sent across to integrated service providers, details for each package is sent as an individual package to create a consolidated shipping order on the shipping service providers end. A shipping label is returned as a PDF where it can be printed or saved.

Packing additional units of measure (AUOM)

When you scan a barcode during sale packing in WMS, the system checks if this item and the sale order item/picked item are linked by an additional unit of measure (AUOM). If the items are linked, WMS allows packing the item.

By default, WMS will use the unit of measure of the scanned item, but you can select an alternative unit of measure from the pack screen. You will see a warning if the picked quantity is less than the full set of a larger unit. (e.g. sale order directs to pick 6 bottles, 1 case of 12 bottles scanned during pack, warning message "Only 6 bottles were picked from the case" will be displayed).
