Picking stock with WMS

Picking stock with WMS

Pick items for one or more orders ready for packing and fulfillment to customers. Up to 1000 items can be loaded per pick.

Prerequisites

  • Configure WMS settings

  • Connect a barcode scanner or enable camera scanning (recommended)

  • Sale order must be authorized

  • Sale can be partially or fully picked but pick must not be authorized

Pick an order

  1. Select Pick from the Main Menu of Cin7 Core WMS.

  2. On the Pick screen, enter an order number manually or scan the UPC code then tap Search to search for an existing sales order. Leave the field blank before tapping search to view all unpicked sale orders from this location. Orders that have been assigned to you, or that are open to all pickers, will be displayed.

  3. Select one or more existing sales from the list and tap Start.

  4. If tote numbers are enabled in your WMS settings, enter the tote number in the Tote # field and tap Begin picking.

  5. You will see all items to pick for the order/s you have selected.

  6. Tap a product, specify the Item # or Scan barcode to enter the item screen. If you have comments or notes from the sale quote or sale order, click i icon to view them here. If there are no comments, this icon will not be visible.

  7. Select the products by scanning the barcode or manually entering the SKU. You may need to press Enter on your device keypad. Any comments or notes from the sale quote or sale order will be visible here.

  8. If the location has bins, you can also change the bin by tapping the bin field and scanning the bin or manually entering the bin name. Continue scanning or entering items, or manually adjust the item quantity using the Qty icon if this is permitted by your WMS settings.

  9. Tap Finish to move on to the next item.

  10. If there are not enough items available to complete the order, you can tap Pick partially when at least one item has been picked to move on to the next stage, leaving the order open for possible picking in the future.

  11. Clicking Finish or Pick partially will bring you back to the pick list, where the pick status of each item will be visible. Tap Finish to move on to the packing stage or start another pick.

Picking order

The pick list will order bins in alphanumerical order. We recommend that bins are ordered and named so that the alphanumerical order corresponds to the shortest pick path. Pick zones limit picking to certain areas of the warehouse.

Directed pick allows WMS to restrict picking and other actions to specific bins or groups of bins. Bin groups group several bins together. The WMS working area can then be restricted to specific bin groups, ignoring stock held in other bins. See Use bin groups for directed pick for more information.

By default WMS allows pickers to scan and select any batch or serial number while picking stock. While auto-pick actions choose stock in line with FIFO/FEFO costing methods, there is no check or validation performed to make sure that the item picked is the oldest or first to expire.

Advanced WMS users receive extra settings and validation to check that picked items are in line with FEFO/FIFO rules before authorizing a pick. This applies to picking for all transactions which result in stock movements, i.e. sales, assembly, stock transfers. Learn more about picking order recommendation.

Additional units of measure (AUOM) and picking

When you scan a barcode during sale picking for an item linked to the sale order item via an additional unit of measure (AUOM), WMS identifies the connection and picks the item. The picked and remaining quantity for the item is converted to the unit of measure of the scanned item. (e.g. sale order for 1 case of 4, WMS user scans 1 can, remaining quantity will display 3 cans.)

Picking for kitting

For some products, multiple items should be assembled into kits to be sold as one whole, e.g. gift boxes. Assembly of these products is simple enough to be done during a pick if no assembled items are available. Advanced WMS users can pick components for assemblies while WMS creates and completes assembly orders automatically with picking for kitting.
