Introduction to products and services

Each product and service that you buy, sell, or use in production needs a record in Cin7 Core. This contains all of a product or service's information, such as its price, suppliers, image, description, and much more. Add products and services to your inventory to start using Cin7 Core.

Prerequisites

Product and service permissions

Grant users full or read-only permission to the different features of the inventory module, such as editing creating products, editing product prices, viewing stock value, and more, with Inventory permissions. You can also create roles with pre-defined permissions to assign to users.

Product and measurement settings

Configure default units of measurement for your products, set SKU naming patterns, and configure other product and measurement settings.

Add products to your inventory

The products and services you buy, sell, and use are stored in your inventory. These include:

  • Products: Physical items that can move in and out of your inventory

  • Product families: Products that come in multiple variations, such as shirts that come in many colors and sizes.

  • Services: Transactions where no physical goods are transferred to the customer, such as training, insurance, or shipping.

  • Non-inventory products: Products that can be bought or sold without checking for availability, for example, items that your organization purchases but does not re-sell like office supplies.

  • Fixed assets: Long-term, tangible business assets such as property, plant, and equipment.

  • Gift cards: A special product type to let your customers pay with gift cards.

If you're connecting to Cin7 Core for the first time, you need to set stock on hand quantities after adding products and services to your inventory.

Create new products and services

Create new products and services manually to add them to your inventory. You can set default values for new products to automatically fill in product information you frequently repeat to save time.

Import an inventory list

You can create or update many products and services at once using a CSV inventory list. You may find this feature useful when importing product information from another system, such as when setting up Cin7 Core for the first time.

Download products from a connected integration

Download products from connected sales channels and accounting systems to Cin7 Core. Check our documentation for Xero, QuickBooks Online, Shopify, and other ecommerce channels for instructions; each integration may have slightly different instructions.

Cin7 downloads product information but not stock levels from sales channels (except Fulfillment by Amazon). Complete a stocktake in Cin7 Core after downloading products before updating stock levels in connected sales channels.

Set prices

Set up to 10 prices for each product using price tiers. Prices can be set manually or dynamically calculated, for example by adding a markup percentage to your average cost or supplier price. You can then assign price tiers to customers or sales channels.

Set custom prices for the products in your inventory for selected customers. Custom prices take precedence over regular product prices.

Add product and carton dimensions

Set the dimensions, weight, and unit of measure for a product. This is not mandatory, and you can still buy and sell products that do not have this information. However, dimensions and weight are required to use most fulfillment services.

If you import stock from overseas you likely import cartons of cartons; a large outer carton, containing multiple inner cartons, each containing a number of products. You can set carton dimensions to apportion landed costs by volume rather than value, and meet minimum requirements for whole sale orders.

Configure suppliers

Add suppliers and supplier prices to a product for Cin7 Core to create purchase orders automatically. This is required to use Cin7 CoreDropship, Low stock reorder, Backorder, MRP, and more of our automatic replenishment features.

Add images

Upload images and attachments to the product from your device. Images will be used in Cin7 Core and passed to connected sales channels. You can also upload images using a CSV file with links from Dropbox or Google Drive.

Apply discounts and deals

Create discounts and markups to apply to your products. Give product discounts to specific customers or groups of customers. Or combine discounts into complex product deals to promote your offerings to customers.

Add additional units of measure

Use Additional units of measure to specify more than one unit of measure for a product or service. For example, if a bottle of wine is sold as an individual bottle, a case of 6, and a case of 12.

List products in sales channels

Upload products from Cin7 Core to connected sales channels. Most of our integrations support listing products. You can also manage how a product appears in your connected sales channels from the Channels tab of a product record.

View products and services

View a list of all the products and services in your inventory. From here, you can create a new product, open a product to see its details, and many other actions.

View product availability

View the availability of your products, including what has been allocated to sales and work orders, what is on order, your stock value, and the date of your next planned delivery. Additionally, you can check each product record to see the stock movements just for that product.

Deprecate and delete products

Cin7 Core has two options for removing products from your inventory.

  • Products can be deprecated, which removes them from active inventory but keeps a record of their information.

  • Deprecated products can be deleted to completely remove all of their records from the system. You can only completely delete products which have not been used in any transactions or operations (purchase, sale, inventory, production, etc.).

Print product information

Print product labels to show a product's list price, barcode, and SKU for easy identification of items for your customers and quick scanning when processing a sale.

Print product specifications to show all details in a product's record, for example its dimensions, BOM, associated suppliers, price tier values, and more.

Merge products

Merge multiple product or service records in a single product or service. This selects one product to be the primary product.

Import and export product information

Export downloads product information in CSV format. You can then edit the information in the file, save it, and reupload it into Cin7 Corewith Import. Cin7 Core supports import and export via CSV of the following information:
